Is Winter Drying Out Your Skin??

Winter is here and that means your skin needs extra care due to decreased humidity, cold temperatures outside, and warm dry, air in the car and indoors. Here are a few tips to help rehydrate and protect your skin:

1. Never use soap on your face. In the winter, use a milky or creamy cleanser which preserves the moisture and a bit of oil on your skin. You need a layer of oil to preserve you skin’s hydration otherwise the moisture will evaporate due to environmental factors.

2. After cleansing your skin, use a ph balanced, non alcohol toner. This will restore the ph of the surface of your skin after you have cleansed it and allow improved absorption of your moisturizer.

3. You may need a richer, more emollient face cream in the winter vs. other times of the year. Try your regular moisturizer for day and a richer cream as your night cream. If you don’t use an eye cream, add that to your skin care routine.

4. Try to cover your face with a scarf if you are going out side in the winter months.

5. Avoid warm air blowing from the car vents or other heat sources directly on your face.

6. Always use sunscreen within or over your moisturizer to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Winter sun is just as if not more damaging to your skin due to its reflection off ice, wet roads and snow.
